Tom and Mary noticed this light show while traveling East on Highway 12 toward Rio Vista. They stopped where Highway 113 T's into Highway 12 from a Northerly direction. 3 other vehicles were pulled over also observing the phenomenon. None of the witnesses talked with each other so no information was exchanged. Tom and Mary called the local paper, the Daily Republic and a small article was written. No other witnesses have been found yet, however, Charlie Goodyear whom wrote the article for D.R. stated that he had talked to a Capt. Robert Kirbyat Travis. In
his article hesitates, "Officials at Travis Air Force Base did get one phone call around 10:30 p.m. Saturday from an unidentified woman reporting a mysterious light in the sky. But air traffic controllers and base personnel noticed nothing unusual, Capt. Robert Kirbysaid." When I interviewed Tom he stated, "They couldn't have missed it if they were even looking out the window! They would have needed sunglasses!" Charlie Goodyear checked with local police and sheriff's dept. and found there were no reportings of the anomaly. I checked with the local fire marshall whom is in charge of, and lives in, the range lands where the incident occurred. Hesitated he
was not aware of the occurance or anyone reporting it, but would call me if he heard anything. According to the witness's descriptions, this light didn't move across the sky and didn't seem to originate from a physical object, but simply existed as its own source with no density. No noise could be heard and it did not travel or move from its active location. It would however, shift and transform from being round (size of dime), then enlarging to round (silver dollar), then would stretch out "like gum" in length (dollar bill), then separating into two. Then it would come back together like around dime and would then fadeout to size of a pinpoint, like a TV tuner
turned off. Then it would come back repeating the process. Witnesses stated this process repeated about 6 times. One time upon separation, the two lights moved diagonally to each other, like a "chevron "with 2 strips, shimmering like a reflection on water. Eventually when fading it never came back. While clouds were scattered through the skys the area where the lights were showing contained none. Tom stated he frequents through the area quite often and is aware of regular air traffic due to the AFB, however during this light show no air traffic was noticed what so ever. The witnesses were interviewed together by phone. Tom is 52, and is a grocer's clerk. Mary
is 50 and is a purchaser for an intercom company. Both are interested in spiritual/psychic type information, but do not keep up with latest gossip or happenings in that regard. Mary stated she did not read or watch the news reports, and that as she did not even know about the comet, until she asked Tom one night what she was seeing in the sky. Both have had a light interest in UFO's but again do not keep up with latest gossip etc...Together through the interview, they seemed to mutually agree upon their story, as they shared enthusiasm and excitement about it. Neither would speculate as to what it was they saw, except that they both 'felt' it was not a terrestial source
phenomenon. Both did not feel frightened by the expierience and talked about it as a positive experience. There were no physical effects reported. Witnesses reported aprox. 5 vehicles passed on Highway 12 during their stationary 5 minute viewing. They found it strange that the vehicles passed as without notice of the event. As if observation was limited only to those who were there initially. The area in which this occured is a rural area, consisting of plains type terrain, covering over 2000 sq miles. Population within the sighting area is sparse, probably 1 ranch for every 2 sq miles. Communities close enough to have possibly witnessed the light show were Birdslanding, Rio
Vista, Dixon, and possibly eastern Fairfield and Suisun. All are surrounding the proximity within 15 miles. Birdslanding is the closest within 5 miles. Attempts were made to locate addtional witnesses with no success. Contact was made either in person or by leaving note, with ranches in the immediate vicinity of the sighting location. Birdslanding, a rural community of ranches, is directly across Highway 12, may contain witnesses. Many events of this nature, in the past, have been reported in the Birdslanding area. I made contact with the postmaster for this area and gave her cards with a request for contact if she heard anything. She readily agreed. I went out to view
the site and check for any natural sources which may explain this event. Idid so on 4/21 at 23:00 to gain perspective with a similar night environment. It was observed that radio towers existed aprox. 15 miles NE of the sighting area. These transmission towers are high and thin. 2 of them had lights which were greenish and would flash on and off. Both towers were aprox. 3 miles apart and would alternately do this in irregular sequence. While considering this as a possible source it was eliminated while reinacting their viewpoint. The towers were to far off in an easterly direction and their proximity to the horizon could never have contributed to the size and altitude of the
event. Additionaly the description which was given did not match the constant sequence in which these towers flashed. Daytime observation of the area was also made. No other potential sources were noted. Witnesses will provide marker drawings in a follow up interview in two weeks. This along with any further data gathered will be forwarded at that time.
