In a clear corroboration of the recent 5-month crop circle investigation by Psi Applications, announced here last week, an independent seed germination study–called a “Vigor Factor Test”–has been conducted by biophysicist W. C. Levengood of Pinelandia Biophysical Laboratory (Grasslake, MI) on seeds taken from the June 28 Rockville crop formation, showing conclusively that the unusual formation could not have been hoaxed. The seed germination test compared the growth of wheat seeds taken from inside the crop formation to the growth of seeds taken outside the formation, in the same field. The study found as much as 50% to 59% increased growth rate in seeds taken from formation plants from inside three of the smallest circles. This exceeds by nearly a factor of four the 15% growth rate increase shown in past crop circle germination studies conducted by Levengood.
“Levengood told me over the phone that the results for R1–the main Rockville formation–are unprecedented for the percentage of increase in growth-rate they show for germinating crop circle seeds,” said Steve Moreno, president of Psi Applications. “59% is the highest rate of increase that Levengood has ever found. This clearly places the Rockville formation far beyond the capabilities of four boys. It supports our conclusion that the Rockville formation is genuine, not hoaxed, and that the possible source of energy may have included microwaves and what Levengood calls an 'ion electron avalanche'–two of the energies he hypothesizes are part of the plasma vortex phenomenon responsible for making crop circles.”
Pinelandia Biophysical Laboratory, the lab of biophysicist W. C. Levengood, has studied the biochemical and biophysical changes of hundreds of crop formation seeds and plants for over a decade. Levengood studied biophysics at the University of Michigan in the 1960s and holds several patents on inventions designed to increase the growth rate of plants–which were partly inspired by his study of crop formations. Levengood hypothesizes that the source for genuine crop formations is a spinning ion plasma vortex and that microwaves lay the crop down by rapidly heating the water in the plants. Side-effects on cereal crops from the complex energies in plasma vortexes include bent and elongated growth nodes, expulsion cavities in nodes, and marked effects on the growth rates of seeds taken from formation plants–suppressing growth in young plants and accelerating growth in mature ones. The seeds taken from the Rockville formation were from mature plants.
Asked recently by Linda Moulton Howe, an independent researcher, if teenagers could be responsible for hoaxing the formation, Levengood replied “Oh, that's ridiculous! There's no way anyone could produce these changes. This conclusion, based on scientific data, is in marked contrast to recent false and inflammatory statements made by the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP), which has conducted no research on the Rockville formation. (See Bay City News Service, “Crop Circle Debate Going Around in Solano County,” December 5, 2003.) Calling Psi Applications' research “blatant mystery mongering” and a bid for “sensationalistic publicity,” CSICOP researcher Joe Nickell further accused Psi Applications of “employing faulty logic and pseudo-science.”
“CSICOP has a bad habit of making propagandistic and debunking statements in support of what might be called a 'positivist fundamentalism,'” said independent journalist Michael Miley, who has closely examined the Rockville data. “In plain language, if the phenomenon is unusual, they're against it, a priori. The scientific research that's been done favoring the reality of the crop circle phenomenon is solid and credible. It can't be reduced to hoaxing. It's CSICOP that's guilty of faulty logic and pseudo-science. Moreover, the validity of the Rockville data showing that it's not a hoax now stands on its own and it's up to CSICOP to prove otherwise.”
Psi Applications conducts scientific and investigative research into unusual phenomenon and adopts the research principle of “following the data” where it leads. Psi Applications plans to conduct further scientific tests on the two other formations discovered this summer in Solano County. The full details of Levengood's “Vigor Factor Test” on the Rockville formation are expected to be released from Pinelandia Biophysical Laboratory within the next few weeks. While you have not heard from us for a while, we have been busy with continued research to prove the authenticity of a crop formation first discovered near Rockville, CA., on June 28th, 2003. It caused a considerable regional stir, and, about two weeks later, 4 local teenagers claimed credit for having hoaxed it. Even the local district attorney didn't believe them as their story was full of inconsistencies. For instance, they claimed to have had plenty of moonlight. However, the formation was made two days before the new moon which would mean that either there was no moon at all, or just the merest sliver.
The director of a local paranormal research group, PsiApplications, became convinced of the authenticity of the formation and sent some samples to Nancy Talbott of BLT Research Inc. The initial samples were inconclusive and Nancy had to leave on an investigation trip to study crop formations in Poland. Steve Moreno, the director, then contacted us for further guidance.
As we continued refining our "long distance" research techniques, we were joined by others such as Dr. Jean-Noel Aubrun, who has worked with the pioneers in England and discovered diatonic ratios and Euclidian theorems in the design which included 13 circles of varying size categories.
Having gathered significant data, we then proceeded to send out a press release notifying the media of an upcoming press conference which was held on December, 4th, 2003 at a tavern and banquet hall across the street from the site of the "Rockville #1" formation. The newspaper response is chronicled below at the site under the heading, "Study Results Emerge..."
The press conference was a huge success as chronicled by the newspaper articles under the heading, "Successful Press Release..."
Of course, it didn't take long for the largest professional skeptic's organization in the country, CSICOP, headquartered in California, to emerge with a statement that, while avoiding dealing with our conclusive experimental results, accused us of "Blatant Mystery-Mongering."
We were thrilled for both the creation of a world-wide forum for the challenge, and the fact that they continued to follow their established strategy. That is, they completely disregarded the valid conclusive experimental data that we presented which they couldn't contradict, and instead reverted to name calling with accusations of unsubstantiated experimental protocol. Once again it didn't seem to occur to them that it was up to them to carry out experiments to prove our results wrong, or all their criticisms would rank as nothing more than biased speculation. As our results are statistically conclusive, our protocols are scientifically valid, and for the first time in history, many actual specimens along with their measurements are available for verification on the "Solano Circles" website set up by Steve, our data and the accompanying conclusions are "certified" "unassailable" by the highest of scientific protocols.
Then, to make things even more interesting, it turned out that Professor William C. Levengood, the "Patriarch" of crop circle research had been following the media coverage, unbeknownst to us. Furthermore, he had conducted his own independent scientific studies on seed germination from the formation and control areas, and had found the greatest degree of growth vigor he has ever encountered in hundreds of studies. He rushed out a preliminary report which can be accessed below to back up our program. We are now considering another press release to add the incredible significance of his results to the conclusive foundation we had already established.

Having survived our first day after the Press Conference we are impressed with the fair and balanced journalism that we have seen today. While there has still been a small percentage of somewhat negative coverage, this is to be expected given the nature of the information received.
It is still somewhat disturbing however to hear these negative elements capitalize on the smallest things, which have nothing to do with the scientific data we presented, acting in total denial and disbelief in the qualifications and capabilities of the degreed scientists and researchers on our team.
I will be posting a link tomorrow to a 'forum' that will allow for constructive dialog, discussions, and engagements to occur on this controversial and misunderstood topic.
It is hoped this will be pro active towards building a better understanding and awareness on these issues, so perhaps then science can embark upon the paths it was meant to pursue.
Dr. Lietzau once stated, "Let the evidence speak for itself, for if there is a problem or issue on anyone's behalf, it can only be with the data. Data that's presented in a scientific manner, with full access for anyone to verify for themselves. If they see a problem - it can then be dealt with and addressed, out in the open for all to see."
I rest my case. This data is now presented here, enabled with full capability for its verification and review. To my understanding as verified by degreed scientists, this is presented according to established scientific methodologies, based upon protocols established from intensive research and experimentation. The results and conclusions from that research form the basis of our protocols, contained in PEER REVIEWED PUBLISHINGS, which anyone may acquire and verify for themselves.
If there is any doubt or question as to the validity of this information, or anyone's qualifications as stated, this should be addressed to us directly in a responsible fashion as any professional journalist should. We are more then happy to substantiate and provide documentation on anything questioned, and will also answer any questions regarding these issues that need clarification.
Any statements that disqualify or deny our team's hard work and data, without pursuing the right path above, is clearly not within the realm of true responsible journalism.
